Why glued wood boards?

We receive many questions from you asking why we produce glued boards from several elements. Sometimes it even takes the form of criticism that solid boards are more valuable. At this point, I would like to pause and discuss the term “solid wood.” In the past, it actually meant a piece of wood cut from sawn timber. Currently, the market uses this term to describe all products made of wood without the addition of other materials, regardless of whether the wood is glued or not.

Now that we have the definitions out of the way, what about this gluing? After all, from a labor-intensive point of view, it would be much easier to produce cutting boards from a single piece. We could skip the entire process of formatting the lumber into smaller pieces, gluing them, and then pressing them in special presses for several dozen hours. Time and money saved. But here, the functional properties of glued wood come into play, such as:

• Much greater strength and flexibility, the board does not warp or bend. It should be remembered that even when following our recommendations for use, contact with water is inevitable

• It does not crack because natural stresses are compressed at the joints

• A wider selection of individual pieces of sawn timber can be made when cutting smaller pieces, and those with the weakest parameters can be discarded. With a single solid large format, this is impossible in practice. Therefore, manufacturers fill, sand or flood such large pieces with fillers, which obviously reduces their utility value

Therefore, in order to produce the highest quality cutting boards, it is necessary to use glued wood technology. Of course, some customers will prefer a board made from a single piece of unglued wood, simply because that is their taste. But this does not change the fact that glued wood is the best option for cutting boards.
